Become A Volunteer

Operation Food Search relies heavily on the help of volunteers. Annually, more than 1,000 volunteers give more than 10,000 hours to help people in need. A variety of projects offer individuals and groups an opportunity to assist others.

Volunteer opportunities

  • Warehouse Volunteer
    Inspect, sort and box non-perishable food products and household items. This activity is for individuals and also works well for team-building groups. Hours: M-F, 9:00am - 5:00 pm.

  • Food Distribution Volunteer
    Help assemble food orders for distribution to partner agencies. Hours: M-F, 7:00 am to noon. Individuals or groups of 2-3 people are welcome to lend a hand. Activities involve being outside (through all seasons). Also, the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. is helpful, but not necessary. A minimum commitment of 2 hours is requested.

  • Truck and van drivers
    Pick up donations from our 800+ food donors using OFS vans. You must have a clean driving record. Retired CDL drivers are urgently needed to drive our trucks. Hours: M-F, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

  • Nutrition education volunteers
    Chefs, dieticians and others interested in cooking and nutrition to help with "Operation Frontline" classes and class preparation. Hours vary. Time commitment is generally 3-4 hours/week + transportation time, for about 4 consecutive weeks.

  • Office Assistance
    Includes a variety of tasks facilitating day-to-day operations. M- F 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

  • Special Events
    Help with special events throughout the year. This includes fundraising events, our golf tournament, Warner's Warm-Up, Girl Scout Council's April Showers, holiday food drives and more. Hours vary.

  • Associate Board
    Young adult group works to create awareness of hunger and raise funds to support our mission. Monthly meetings.

  • Curriculum based/school community service
    We accommodate students of all ages for community service projects. We will help facilitate appropriate documentation. Please note that students under 18 years of age must be supervised at all times by an adult involved with the project.
