Operation Back Pack

Because Hunger...doesn't take a weekend break.

Operation Back Pack

85% of children enrolled in the St. Louis Public School District rely on free or reduced cost meals. For those children, weekends are filled with hunger and despair.

Operation Back Pack exists to help meet the nutritional needs of children over the weekend.

Back Packs full of nutritious, kid-friendly, easy to prepare foods are given to children on Friday before school dismissal. Each back pack contains two proteins, two grains, two snacks, two fruits and/or vegetables, and one dairy item. On Monday, students return the empty back packs and the cycle continues.

To help, sponsor a child, classroom, or school. Donations and volunteers are needed to support this program.

2009 School Year

Operation Back Pack

During the previous school year, Operation Back Pack had nine schools enrolled with 885 low-income children receiving back packs each weekend. Nearly 15,097 back packs were provided to these children. Dedicated volunteers helped pack back packs each week.
